Sweet Insanity

Sweet Insanity2

Sweet Insanity: The college strip I created with my friend, Ed Power nearly 2 decades ago before the great cartoon flood of the late 90's. It's entirely possible, if we took it more seriously, we could have gotten it on the Cartoon Network.

The plot was they all lived in a boarding house for unwanted cartoon characters. We'd never be able to do it today as people would say it was a rip-off of "Drawn Together" with all the different genres of characters living in the same house. I'd like to say they ripped us off, but I'm relatively certain of the 13 people who read our strip, none of them was the creator of "Drawn Together".

Sweet Insanity went through a few incarnations over the years. More incarnations than actual papers they were in. It was probably more fun to create the characters than actually use them. The first college paper was "Quo Vadis", for Middlesex County College.
Quo Vadis

We were booted from the paper for using the word, "Boobies". Actually, it's not all as simple as that. There was a deeper conspiracy, but I will divulge that info at a later date. Who doesn't love a little mystery in their cartoon websites?

Our next paper was the renegade paper, "The Medium" for Rutgers.
The Medium

Boy, they really liked to say, "Shit".

In the Medium we shared a page with artist Chris McCullough. He went on to write & direct for one of my favorite cartoons, "The Tick", Nowadays he's one of the creators of "The Venture Bros." under the pseudonym, "Jackson Publick". Lucky, talented bastard.

It's a shame about Sweet Insanity. Too many factors just cut it short before it found its footing and I sharpened up my artwork. What can ya do?
